As trade and entrepreneurship continue to drive economic activity in The Gambia, Wave is reinforcing its support for the country’s business community through sponsorship of the GCCI International Trade Fair. With markets expanding, investment rising, and demand for accessible financial services increasing, Wave’s participation highlights its commitment to merchants, vendors, and customers at the centre of everyday commerce.
Markets remain the foundation of economic life in The Gambia. Most households rely on informal trade for income, and SMEs account for the majority of active businesses. At the same time, cashless transactions are gaining ground as traders and customers adopt digital payment options, particularly in commercial hubs such as Serrekunda and Brikama, where daily trade activity continues to intensify.
The GCCI International Trade Fair Gambia 2026 runs from 30 April to 21 May 2026 in Banjul. It is the 19th edition of the event, organised by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), and serves as one of the country’s largest commercial platforms.
Wave’s participation positions the company alongside merchants, vendors, agents, and customers at the centre of commerce. By engaging directly with these stakeholders, Wave highlights how simple and affordable digital financial services support entrepreneurship and economic growth.
Sainabou Sarr, General Manager Wave Gambia, said, “Our role is to ensure that merchants and customers have access to financial tools that make transactions easier and more secure. Supporting the people who power The Gambia’s trade is central to our vision for inclusive growth.”
Wave brings four booths to the Trade Fair, integrates into the fair’s ticketing system for more than 500 vendors, and reaches out through its nationwide network of 1,900 agents. This engagement demonstrates Wave’s broader collaboration with the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other private sector actors working to strengthen enterprise and opportunity across the country.
“The Trade Fair gives us the chance to meet merchants, agents, and customers in the spaces where they work and trade every day,” added Momodou Joof, Operations Director at Wave Gambia. “That proximity matters. It helps us understand their needs and ensures our services deliver practical value.”
Through its sponsorship, Wave is reinforcing its credibility as a partner in commerce by making transactions simpler, more reliable, and accessible, helping businesses and households participate fully in The Gambia’s growing economy.
