Police Nab Two Suspects
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus that claimed the life of player Dominic Frimpong.
The suspects, Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” and Bawa Gideon, were picked up on April 15, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at Atimatim in Kumasi involving multiple police units.
According to police, the suspects attempted to escape and fired at officers before they were overpowered and arrested.
The incident occurred on April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District. In response, the Inspector-General of Police deployed a special team to track down the perpetrators.
Items retrieved from the suspects include a pistol with ammunition, BB cartridges, pepper spray, mobile phones and other materials believed to be connected to the attack.
During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed reportedly confessed to participating in the Berekum Chelsea attack as well as other robberies at Nkawie and Fufuso. He also mentioned three accomplices—Dauda, Huefe and A.T.—who are currently on the run.
Police say Mohammed Ahmed is receiving treatment under guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with investigations.
The three other suspects have since been declared wanted, with police appealing to the public to provide information that could lead to their arrest.
Authorities have assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend all members of the gang, adding that the suspects will soon be arraigned before court.
The Police Command has commended officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to the public for their support, which contributed to the arrests.
