…Says NPP’s Road to 2029 Starts Now

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia, has charged members of the party to work hard and rally behind him to wrestle power from the NDC in 2028.
Judging from the current abysmal performance of the NDC and its incompetent leader John Dramani Mahama in government , Dr Bawumia says that has created an opportunity for the NPP to return to power to develop the country
He made this known when he held a strategic meeting with the Minority Caucus in Parliament ahead of the resumption of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament, signalling what he described as the beginning of the party’s rebuilding process
The meeting aimed at charting a clear and strategic path forward for both the NPP and the country as the opposition party seeks to reposition itself ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Addressing the Minority Members of Parliament, Dr Bawumia emphasised the need for unity, discipline and evidence-based leadership in shaping the party’s conduct both within Parliament and in the broader national political discourse.
“Our focus is to rebuild and offer credible alternatives and to hold the government accountable,” he stated, stressing that the NPP must rise to the challenge of presenting practical policy alternatives while strengthening its role as an effective opposition.
He told the caucus that the party’s approach going forward would be defined by unity and a commitment to data-driven leadership and responsible governance.
“Unity and evidence-based leadership will define our conduct both inside and outside Parliament,” Dr Bawumia said, adding that rebuilding public confidence in the NPP had become an urgent priority.
The former Vice President also declared that the period of post-election reflection within the party had ended, urging members to redirect their energies toward political reorganisation and renewed engagement with the electorate.
“We have finished the period of introspection. We must now position ourselves credibly as a party preparing to govern from January 7, 2029,” he stated.
His remarks come at a time when the NPP continues efforts to regroup after suffering defeat in the 2024 elections, with party leaders facing mounting pressure to rebuild trust among supporters and redefine their political strategy in opposition.
Dr Bawumia expressed confidence that the party could restore public confidence if it remained focused on unity, accountability and offering policy alternatives capable of addressing the country’s economic and governance challenges.
“The work to restore confidence and secure a better future for Ghana begins now,” he told the Minority Caucus.
The meeting is expected to shape the opposition’s parliamentary strategy as lawmakers return from recess, with the Minority likely to intensify scrutiny of government policies while positioning the NPP for a political comeback in 2029.
