The police have shot dead a key suspect linked to violence during the Awukudae celebrations at Akropong following a gun battle that lasted nearly two hours.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026, involved personnel from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate with support from the National Headquarters.
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Kwasi Ansah Eku, also known as “Dragon,” opened fire when officers attempted to arrest him, triggering an exchange of gunfire. He was subsequently shot dead.
Police also arrested two additional suspects — Bright Ofori Asante, alias “Bonto,” 33, and Kwame Ayeh, also known as “Saboba,” 41 — who were reportedly identified in footage linked to the incident.
A third individual, 19-year-old Elvis Adjei, was arrested for allegedly obstructing police during the operation.
All three suspects are currently in police custody in Koforidua, assisting with investigations. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
