Police Arrest Six Over Deadly GB Oil Filling Station Robbery

The Ghana Police Service has arrested six suspects in connection with the deadly armed robbery attack at the GB Oil Filling Station near Atebubu in the Bono East Region that left two people dead and two others injured.

According to police, the robbery occurred on May 2, 2026, when heavily armed men stormed the filling station with partially covered faces and opened fire indiscriminately. The attackers reportedly took a female fuel attendant hostage while searching for the station manager, who had already left the premises moments earlier.

The shooting led to the deaths of Ebenezer Njoti, 30, and Joseph Kpesah, 39, while two others sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Police investigators recovered 15 spent AK-47 cartridges and one BB cartridge from the crime scene.

Police investigations later uncovered what authorities described as a sophisticated robbery syndicate operating within Atebubu and surrounding communities. Intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of several suspects, including Sule Hamidu Suba and Abdulai Ali, who allegedly acted as scouts for the gang.

Investigators identified the alleged ringleader as Abdul Razak Osman, also known as Alhaji Gao, a fuel station operator accused of financing armed robbery gangs and renting weapons to criminal groups across the area. Police say he admitted that weapons used in the robbery were supplied through his associate, Adamu Adam, who allegedly transported firearms to the gangs.

Three suspects — Nuhu Awudu, Dauda Issah, and Abdul Razak Osman — were shot during separate operations after allegedly attempting to escape while leading police to retrieve hidden weapons. Police said all three later died at the Atebubu Government Hospital.

The Regional Police Commander assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest remaining gang members and recover two AK-47 rifles believed to still be in circulation.
