Henry Nana Boakye, an aspirant for the position of 1st Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Thursday filed his nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.

Mr. Boakye submitted his forms to officials of the Elections Committee at the party’s secretariat, formally entering the race for one of the party’s most senior national executive positions ahead of the NPP’s upcoming national delegates’ conference.

Speaking briefly after filing his forms, Mr. Boakye thanked party officials for the smooth conduct of the nomination process and expressed appreciation to the grassroots for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to work toward strengthening internal party unity and cohesion should he be elected, describing the position of 1st Vice Chairman as central to the party’s efforts to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of the 2028 general election.

Commitment to Party Rebuilding

Mr. Boakye’s nomination comes as the NPP continues its internal reorganisation exercise following its defeat in the 2024 general election. He noted that the party’s national executive team would need to work closely with regional and constituency structures to restore the party’s competitiveness, and pledged his readiness to support that process if given the mandate by delegates.

He was received at the headquarters by party officials, supporters, and sympathisers who had gathered to witness the filing, with well-wishers expressing confidence in his candidature ahead of the internal elections.

With his nomination now filed, Mr. Boakye joins the field of aspirants vying for the position of 1st Vice Chairman. The Elections Committee is expected to close nominations for all national executive positions within the coming days, after which vetting will take place ahead of the party’s national delegates’ conference.
