Mahama Administration Cannot Intimidate Us Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib Fires

The 2nd Deputy Minority Whip of Parliament, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has issued a strong warning to the government, insisting that the Minority Caucus will not be silenced or intimidated under the current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in an interview on Morning Target Show on Bullet TV on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe expressed deep concern over what he described as a growing atmosphere of political intimidation.

“Criticizing this Mahama, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang administration has become a threat to us in the Minority Caucus, but they cannot intimidate us,” Hon. Shaib asserted.

According to him, any attempt by the government to suppress dissent or undermine the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech will be firmly resisted by the Minority and concerned citizens alike.

During the interview with host Bright Nana Amfoh, discussions centered on key national issues, including the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) and reported operational challenges surrounding the Gold-for-Oil policy. Hon. Shaib stressed that accountability remains a fundamental pillar of Ghana’s democracy and must not be compromised.

He further revealed that he had earlier joined scores of demonstrators in the “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” protest, translated as “We Are Not Afraid of Threats” to register public discontent and defend democratic freedoms.

“I stood in solidarity with citizens who are demanding justice and accountability. Freedom of speech must be protected at all costs, and no Ghanaian should be silenced through fear or coercion,” he emphasized.

Hon. Shaib also called on the government to deliver on its key campaign promises, including:

  • Ending illegal mining (galamsey)
  • Implementing the 24-hour economy to create sustainable jobs
  • Ensuring stable and reliable electricity supply
  • Guaranteeing prompt payment to cocoa farmers
  • Reducing utility tariffs to ease economic hardship
  • Avoiding the politicization of state institutions

He concluded by urging the administration to prioritize governance that reflects transparency, accountability, and respect for democratic principles.
