Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Saturday, August 9, visited President John Dramani Mahama at his private residence to express condolences following the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two ministers of state and six other officials.
Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and members of the previous government, described the incident as a “national tragedy” and extended sympathy to President Mahama, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana. He later visited the family of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, to convey his personal condolences.
An evening of reflections and a memorial service for the victims was held the same day at the Forecourt of the State House.
Meanwhile, burial Service was held for the two Muslim victims—Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and MP for Tamale Central, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.
In line with Islamic tradition, Janazah prayers was held on Sunday, August 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, followed by burial at . at the Military Cemetery.
An inter-denominational state funeral for the remaining six victims is scheduled to be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square.
