A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Afigya Kwabre South constituency chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (Asanteman COKA), has expressed deep disappointment in President John Mahama and his government, saying the administration is repeating the same mistakes it made during its previous term in office.
Speaking to Angel Fm in kumasi recently, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah said the state of governance in Ghana since the NDC assumed power has been very shocking .
He stated that: “I am very disappointed in President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). I see a lot of mistakes that I was not expecting someone like President Mahama who has been President before and is back as president to be repeating the same mistakes he made in 2016”
” President Mahama is in a unique position to stop retaliatory politics in Ghana and unite the country, but he has been very divisive with needless arrests of opponents with unreasonable bail conditions. “
Among the issues he raised, COKA pointed to the rising cost of utilities, the return of dumsor in the Ashanti Region, deteriorating security, and bad roads as clear signs that the NDC is failing Ghanaians.
He said, “They (NDC) claim the cedi is doing well against the dollar, but it is not reflecting on Ghanaians. Look, we are paying more for water today than before. We are paying more for electricity than before. In fact, the utility bills have increased again this month, so we are going to pay even more.”
COKA, who is aspiring to lead Ashanti Region NPP, also took an issue with the NDC’s flagship campaign promise, the 24-hour economy, which was intended to create jobs by running industries in three shifts around the clock.
He questioned: “Their major campaign promise. The 24-hour economy was to give one job to three people in 3 shifts. Where is it? It has turned into constructing markets. Compare that to NPP 2016 major campaign promise, the free Senior High School (SHS) program. We implemented it within one year in office.”
He also raised concerns about the NDC’s treatment of workers, saying the administration went beyond political appointees when they began laying off employees.
“President Mahama and NDC in 2025 sacked workers employed by previous government. You can sack political appointees and head of state institutions when there is a change of government and not ordinary workers employed,” he said.
COKA further took issue with the NDC’s treatment of the Ashanti Region, a region he noted gave the NDC more votes than even their stronghold, the Volta Region.
He said the NDC has shortchanged the region with their appointments and projects, a matter he promised to address in detail at the right time.
