Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah popularly known as Asanteman COKA, has urged smaller political parties in the region to unite and demand the completion of abandoned development projects.
He specifically cited several Agenda 111 hospital projects which, according to him, remain incomplete under the current administration.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of eight political parties, Asanteman COKA said the condition of some projects had deteriorated to the extent that completed structures were beginning to deteriorate.
“Alot of the agenda 111 hospital projects which obviously were aimed at helping to bring proper health care to the people within a district without hospital have been left to rot. That is very unfortunately.”
He also mentioned school projects in the Offinso area as another example of projects he believes require urgent attention.
” when you go to offinso, there is already completed local governance university which has been abandoned.
“We have to have one common voice to tell the President to complete the projects for Asanteman,” he said.
The NPP chairman argued that development projects should not be abandoned simply because there has been a change in government.
He therefore called on the political parties to collectively engage President John Dramani Mahama and demand the completion of projects that are important to communities across the region.
Asanteman COKA argued that the Ashanti Region had demonstrated significant electoral support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the last election and should consequently benefit from national development.
“Ashanti Region gave NDC more votes than even their stronghold, Volta Region. So we are asking for our share of the national cake,” he said.
His comments form part of a broader call for political parties in the region to cooperate on development issues despite their ideological differences.
