The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has resigned from his position, effective July 31, 2026.
The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, June 15.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also confirmed that the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired from office.
According to the government spokesperson, Dr. Asare indicated in his resignation letter that he had decided to step down to return to academia and continue his work at the University of Ghana.
He noted that Dr. Asare expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve at the Electoral Commission.
“Dr. Bossman Asare has indicated his intention to return to academia and continue his work at the University of Ghana,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said.
He added that the process to replace the two officials has already commenced.
According to him, a nominee has been forwarded to the Council of State for consideration in line with constitutional requirements.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained that once the Council of State completes its review, an official announcement will be made regarding the replacement for Mr. Tettey, after which a separate process will be initiated to fill the vacancy created by Dr. Asare’s resignation.
The Electoral Commission is expected to provide further details on the transition arrangements in the coming weeks.
The departure of the two senior officials marks a significant transition within the Electoral Commission as it prepares for future electoral activities and institutional reforms.
Dr. Asare, who has served as Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, played a key role in the Commission’s public engagement and stakeholder relations, while Mr. Tettey oversaw the Commission’s operational functions during major electoral exercises.
