NPP Flagbearer Race: Bawumia Picks Third on Ballot Paper

Flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have drawn their positions on the ballot paper ahead of the party’s highly anticipated presidential primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The balloting exercise took place on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the NPP headquarters in Accra.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and a leading contender in the race, drew the third spot on the ballot. He was followed by former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who picked the fourth position. Former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, completed the list with the fifth slot.

Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, secured the top spot, drawing number one. Former Minister for Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong, picked the second position.

The outcome of the ballot positions adds another layer of interest to a race that is expected to shape the future direction of the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
