Ghanaian international footballer Thomas Partey appeared in a UK court today facing six serious sexual offence charges, including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, involving three different women over an 11-month period.
The charges, formally read out by prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward KC, span alleged incidents from April 2021 to February 2022. Partey, who currently plays in the English Premier League and has been a key figure in the Ghana national team, has denied all allegations and maintains that all interactions were consensual.
Details of the Charges:
Charge 1: Anal Rape (Complainant 1)
Allegedly occurred between April and May 2021 during a consensual sexual encounter. Complainant 1 claims Partey anally penetrated her without consent during vaginal intercourse.
Reported in February 2022, Partey was arrested and interviewed in July 2022.
Charge 2: Anal Rape (Complainant 1)
A separate set of allegations from April to June 2021, in which Complainant 1 claims multiple instances of non-consensual anal sex—at least four occasions.
Partey attended a voluntary police interview in November 2024.
Charge 3: Vaginal Rape (Complainant 2)
Allegedly occurred in December 2021. Complainant 2 says she refused sex, but Partey proceeded to vaginally penetrate her against her will.
The case was reported in February 2025 and Partey was interviewed in March 2025.
Charge 4: Anal Rape (Complainant 2)
In February 2022, Partey is alleged to have forced anal sex after Complainant 2 declined the act.
The complaint was made in September 2022, though this allegation was reportedly not addressed during his March 2025 interview.
Charge 5: Vaginal Rape (Complainant 2)
An alleged rape incident in June 2022 while in Marbella, Spain. Partey is accused of vaginally raping the complainant.
He was questioned about the incident in July 2022.
Charge 6: Sexual Assault (Complainant 3)
In February 2022, Partey allegedly sexually assaulted Complainant 3 at his residence by lying on top of her, attempting to kiss her, and touching her body over her clothing. She says she struggled to push him off until he eventually stopped.
Partey attended a voluntary interview in February 2023.
Partey Denies All Charges
The footballer, through his legal team, has vigorously denied all six charges, describing the encounters as consensual and pledging to defend his innocence in court.
The case has drawn intense public and media attention both in the United Kingdom and Ghana, where Partey is regarded as one of the country’s most prominent athletes.
The trial is expected to continue in the coming weeks as prosecutors outline their evidence and the defense prepares its case.
