NPP Presidential Elections Committee Concludes Voter Album Validation Ahead of January 2026 Primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has announced the successful completion of the nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise ahead of the party’s presidential primaries slated for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra, the Committee Chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu, said the exercise covered all constituencies and external branches of the NPP.

Mr. Osei-Owusu revealed that all presidential aspirants will receive the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025, to allow for a two-week period of verification and feedback before finalisation.

“The nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise, encompassing all constituencies and External Branches, has been successfully concluded. In the interest of full transparency and fairness, all aspirants will be furnished with the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Two weeks will be provided for verification, observations, and feedback before finalising the register,” he stated.

He explained that although some minor administrative discrepancies—including wrongly spelt names, omissions, and inaccurate entries—were detected, they did not compromise the integrity of the register.

“I am pleased to report that all such issues are currently being rectified,” he added.

According to him, the process also confirmed the removal of delegates who had passed away or forfeited their membership in line with Article 3(9)(1) of the party’s constitution.

Five Aspirants to Contest

The five aspirants vying for the NPP’s flagbearer position are:

  • Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central
  • Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Food and Agriculture
  • Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana
  • Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister for Education
  • Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Press Secretary to President John Agyekum Kufuor

Measures to Ensure Credibility

Mr. Osei-Owusu outlined several measures to guarantee transparency and fairness, including:

  • Exclusive control of election-day security by the Ghana Police Service
  • Strict access control at voting centres
  • Full supervision by the Electoral Commission (EC)

The EC will oversee the printing, distribution, and monitoring of ballot papers, as well as enforce operational guidelines to ensure a credible and peaceful poll.

The Committee further disclosed plans to hold a series of meetings with the aspirants, the EC, the Police Service, and the National Council of Elders to sign a peace pact ahead of the primaries.

Reaffirming the Committee’s “unflinching dedication to a free, fair, transparent, and credible process,” Mr. Osei-Owusu urged party members and the media to desist from spreading unverified information that could undermine public confidence.

“Together, we will uphold the NPP’s tradition of democratic excellence and institutional discipline,” he emphasized.
