Accra, August 6, 2025 — A Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Z-9 military helicopter carrying eight individuals, including five high-profile government officials and three crew members, has reportedly gone missing after taking off on the morning of Wednesday, August 6.
The helicopter, which departed from an undisclosed location, was en route to Obuasi when it suddenly went off the radar, raising serious concerns over its whereabouts.
In a brief statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces, the military confirmed the incident and noted that search and rescue operations have already commenced in a bid to trace the aircraft and re-establish contact.
“We can confirm that a GAF Z-9 helicopter with eight occupants on board has lost contact with our operations base while en route to Obuasi. Efforts are currently underway to locate the helicopter and ensure the safety of all on board,” the GAF statement read.
The identities of the passengers have not yet been made public, but sources indicate that those on board include high-ranking government officials, prompting heightened security interest and national concern.
This incident comes at a time of increased use of military transport for high-level government operations. Aviation authorities and national security operatives have been mobilized as the search intensifies.
