Bawumia Poised for Victory

After High-Energy Nationwide NPP Tour

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has brought his nationwide campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership to a close, climaxing his four-month tour with a grand finale in the Ashanti Region.

The final day of the campaign saw Dr. Bawumia engage delegates in Sekyere Afram Plains, Kumawu, Efiduase and Manhyia North constituencies, with the Northern part of Manhyia hosting the ultimate stop in a rousing atmosphere marked by songs, cheers and enthusiastic displays of support.

Delegates and party members welcomed the former Vice President with rapturous reception, underscoring the strong backing he continues to enjoy across the party.

Dr. Bawumia, who is widely tipped to win Saturday’s contest, has traversed 270 of the party’s 276 constituencies nationwide. The only exceptions were six constituencies in the Bawku Zone, which were under security restrictions at the time of his Upper East Regional tour.

His campaign has earned praise for its organisation, energy and clarity of message, with a strong emphasis on party unity, rebuilding and national transformation.

Throughout his engagements, Dr. Bawumia has consistently prioritised welfare issues affecting party members, particularly those at the grassroots level. This concern was highlighted as a key factor in the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat by the Mike Oquaye Committee, which investigated the party’s loss.

To address these challenges, Dr. Bawumia has proposed the creation of a comprehensive party welfare database system. The initiative would register party members at the local level, recognise their contributions, document their needs and ensure that support is delivered in a fair and proportional manner.

In a bid to tackle concerns of exclusion, he has also pledged that under a future NPP government, each constituency would be guaranteed a minimum of ten government appointments, ensuring equitable inclusion of qualified party members nationwide.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia has proposed the introduction of a constituency-based national budgeting system, aimed at guaranteeing development allocations to every constituency across the country.

His campaign tour has been marked by widespread endorsements from key party stakeholders, including sitting and former Members of Parliament, MMDCEs, regional and constituency executives, electoral area coordinators and polling station executives.

Several independent surveys have also placed Dr. Bawumia in pole position to be retained by party delegates as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
