… As New Poll Shows Commanding Lead in January 31st Prez Primaries
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) yet-to-be-opened 2026 presidential primaries, according to a sweeping new nationwide poll by Global Info Analytics.
The survey, conducted between December 29, 2025, and January 23, 2026, paints a decisive picture of the party’s internal dynamics, placing Bawumia well ahead of a crowded field of potential contenders and cementing his status as the early favourite to lead the NPP into the post-2024 era.
Based on interviews with 10,133 respondents across 272 constituencies in all 16 regions, the poll’s predictive model gives Bawumia 57 percent support among party delegates. He is followed at a distance by Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who polls 28 percent, while Abetifi MP and former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong records 13 percent.
Former Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum trails with 2 percent, while former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong registers no measurable support.
According to Mussa Dankwa, Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, the survey was designed to go beyond urban strongholds, using computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) to capture delegate sentiment nationwide. The poll reports a 99.9 percent confidence level, with a margin of error of ±1.57 percent, adjusted to ±3.0 percent for the final predictive model that factors in historical voting behaviour and undecided delegates.
Acheampong Gains Momentum
One of the most striking findings from the January data is the late surge by Dr. Bryan Acheampong. Having languished in single digits in late 2025, his climb to 13 percent in the final week of the survey suggests that his message is gaining traction among delegates seeking a consensus or unifying figure within the party.
While still far behind the frontrunner, pollsters say Acheampong’s upward movement is one to watch as internal alignments continue to shift.
Regional Fault Lines Emerge Bawumia’s dominance is underpinned by a near-clean sweep of the five Northern regions, complemented by strong showings in the North East and Upper West Regions—a regional base that once again proves decisive in internal NPP contests.
