Customs seize 800 kilograms of cocaine hidden in cassava flour at Amsterdam port

Dutch customs officers seized 800 kilograms of cocaine during a routine inspection Sunday at the Port of Amsterdam.

The drugs were concealed inside a shipping container filled with cassava flour. The container ship carrying the load originated in West Africa and was en route to Antwerp, Belgium, according to NH.

In recent years, West Africa has reportedly developed into a significant transit point for cocaine traffickers. Shipments move from South America to countries including Liberia and Sierra Leone before continuing to the final European destinations.

Authorities destroyed the cocaine, which carried a street value exceeding 30 million euros. Customs, the Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD), and police are investigating the details of the criminal operation.
