The Member of Parliament(MP) for Afigya Kwabre South, Damata Ama Appianimaa Salam, has given her support to Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (Asanteman COKA) in the race for Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying she owes her political achievements entirely to his mentorship and leadership.
The endorsement came on Saturday, July 25, when Odeneho met constituency executives in Bekwai during his ongoing “Hope Tour” across the Ashanti Region. The regional chairmanship elections are slated for August 15.
Speaking before the executives, Salam offered a personal testament to COKA’s leadership qualities, drawing on her own experience under his chairmanship. “Family, If I am where I am today, it is because of Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah. He identified my potential and guided me to become who I am today,” the MP declared.
Salam recounted her journey from serving as a women organiser and constituency secretary under COKA’s leadership to becoming a member of Parliament. She credited his ability to see potential in people and elevate them as a key feature of his leadership style.
She also added that Odeneho had a chance to perform when she was an executive saying, “he made me powerful among the lot.”
Beyond personal gratitude, the MP offered an important assessment of COKA’s leadership abilities.
“He is a decisive leader. He seeks the opinion of others, and he is ready to work with anybody with respect. This is evidence based,” she stated, tilting her endorsement towards an observed and lived experience rather than just sentiment.
The MP made clear her intention to be an active force behind COKA’s campaign and declared an ambitious target for his victory margin.
“I am pushing for 98% votes for him. And so I urge you all to vote massively for COKA to lead the Ashanti NPP,” she urged the Bekwai executives.
COKA, who served as Afigya Kwabre South constituency chairman for many years before declaring his regional bid, has been touring constituencies across the Ashanti Region to seek support ahead of the elections. The Bekwai stop forms part of this broader engagement drive under the Hope Tour banner.
