Mobile Money Value Hits GHS 3.6 Trillion

 …Between January and October 2025

The value of mobile money transactions for the first 10 months of 2025 has surged to GH¢3.6 trillion, reflecting sustained expansion in Ghana’s digital payments ecosystem.

This is according to new Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) following last week’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. The figure represents the cumulative value of mobile money transactions reported by telecom operators from January to October 2025.

Monthly data show a continued upward trend, with transactions rising from GH¢406 billion in September to GH¢436 billion in October.

Strong Annual Growth

The latest outturn marks a significant improvement over previous years. In the same period of 2024, mobile money transactions totalled GH¢2.368 trillion. For 2023, the figure was GH¢1.367 trillion.

The current performance indicates that 2025 is on track to record the highest value of mobile money transactions since the service was introduced.

The Bank of Ghana had earlier reported GH¢1.775 trillion in mobile money transactions for the first eight months of 2024, underscoring the acceleration in usage over the past two years.

Drivers of Growth

Industry stakeholders attribute the sharp rise to increasing adoption of mobile money for payments across households and businesses. Efforts by the Bank of Ghana and commercial banks to deepen the cashless agenda have also contributed to the expanded use of digital platforms.

Additionally, more public and private institutions now accept mobile money for fees, charges and various payments, further boosting transaction volumes.

Analysts note that the convenience of the service, coupled with continuous innovation by telecom operators, has been key to sustaining the momentum.

Sector Indicators

As of October 2025, the number of registered mobile money accounts stood at 79.1 million, of which 25.3 million were active. The sector is also supported by approximately 949,000 registered agents across the country.

Total transaction count for the period January to October 2025 amounted to 893 million.

On mobile money interoperability, a total of GH¢40 billion was transferred across different platforms within the same period, reflecting continued growth in cross-network transactions.
