Former Public Relations Manager of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Razak Kojo Opoku, has refuted claims made by The Fourth Estate concerning the Authority’s partnership with KGL Group, describing the publication as misleading and factually inaccurate.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, Mr. Opoku called on The Fourth Estate to produce evidence to support its alleged claim that he is a paid consultant for KGL, insisting that such an assertion is “false and unethical.”
“I challenge The Fourth Estate to produce a letter indicating that I am a paid consultant to KGL if indeed their claim is based on integrity and honesty,” he stated.
Mr. Opoku clarified that the National Lottery Authority’s letter regarding the KGL transaction was written on 7th October 2025, but was officially received by KGL on 13th October 2025—a timeline he said is supported by documentary evidence.
He further insisted that Mr. Alex Dadey, Executive Chairman of KGL Group, never requested that the NLA defer its request to 2026, as alleged in the publication.
According to the former NLA spokesperson, The Fourth Estate and its Executive Director, Mr. Sulemana Briamah, were “completely misled” in their investigations and have resorted to personal attacks rather than addressing factual rebuttals.
“When an argument is lost, personal attacks become the norm. The Fourth Estate should accept that they were misled in their fishing expedition against the NLA–KGL deal instead of fabricating facts to save face,” he added.
Mr. Opoku emphasized that The Fourth Estate is not a judicial or investigative body and therefore cannot compel individuals or companies to disclose proprietary or commercial information.
“No one is obliged under any oath to offer vital or trade information to them. They should rather seek clarification from their sources at the NLA or consult the GJA President for accurate information,” he said.
He accused The Fourth Estate of previously publishing false financial claims about the NLA, including an allegation that the Authority gave away a GHS 3 billion business to KGL and that it paid only GHS 37 million in profit to the state in 2018—figures he said were disproven with official data.
Mr. Opoku maintained that KGL Group is a responsible corporate entity and that the company’s operations have consistently adhered to national regulations and contributed to Ghana’s development.
“Since The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa began their campaign against KGL, I have consistently proven them wrong with facts and data. There will be no insults, only intellectual debate based on evidence,” he stressed.
He concluded by condemning what he described as “jandam journalism”—a term he used to refer to sensational and unsubstantiated reporting—and reaffirmed his commitment to defending indigenous businesses.
“We reject jandam journalism and remain resolute in defending indigenous enterprises like KGL that are contributing positively to Ghana’s economy,” Mr. Opoku declared.

From Fat Lies To Empty Lies: The new case of Fourth Estate against Razak Kojo Opoku
First and foremost, can Fourth Estate produce a letter indicating that I am a paid Consultant to KGL for the purpose of integrity and honesty?
I still insist that, NLA’s letter was written on 7th October 2025, but the leadership of KGL received the letter on 13th October 2025 (attached to the Article is the available evidence).
Again, I still insist that, Mr. Alex Dadey never asked NLA to defer its request to 2026 (attached to the Article is the available evidence).
We perfectly understand that when an argument is lost, personal attack becomes the norm, hence the current stance by Fourth Estate.
Fourth Estate and Sulemana Briamah should accept that they were completely misled in their fishing expedition work against the NLA-KGL deal instead of trying to save face by resorting to fabrication of facts.
Since Fourth Estate is NOT a Court or State Investigative body, no one is obliged under any Oath to offer vital information or trade information or economic data to/with them.
I will advise the media outlet to get the right information from their sources at NLA, or possibly contact their alleged ally, Albert, who is the President of the Ghana Journalists Association for help.
What even makes Fourth Estate and Sulemana Briamah think that, the letters in their possession are genuine and authentic?
Fourth Estate lied about NLA giving away a GHS 3 billion prime business to KGL. When the facts were made available, they refused to comment on it.
They also lied about NLA paying GHS 37 million to the State as Profit in 2018. When they were proven wrong with data, they stopped pushing that assertion.
Since Fourth Estate and Media Foundation for West Africa started this diabolic agenda against KGL, I have consistently proven them wrong with Fact and Data, and I shall continue to do so until they come to understand the lottery industry.
There will be no insults or lies, just intellectual debate based on Facts and Data.
I just want Fourth Estate and Sulemana Briamah to understand that, they can never win this argument because KGL has proven to be a responsible corporate entity.
In this enterprise, we reject jandam journalism and remain resolute in the defense of indigenous businesses including KGL.
