DR. BAAH-NUAKOH QUESTIONS GFA’S COMMITMENT TO CLUB LICENSING

Chairman of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Club Licensing Committee, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, has raised serious concerns about the Association’s handling of its licensing regulations.

In a candid assessment, Dr. Baah-Nuakoh stated that he doubts the GFA is committed to enforcing the club licensing regime, pointing out that no club in the Ghana Premier League was formally issued a license to compete last season.

“I doubt the GFA takes club licensing seriously. No club was issued a license to play in the Ghana Premier League last season,” he said.

The revelation highlights long-standing concerns about infrastructure, financial transparency, and governance standards among Ghanaian clubs. The club licensing system, which is designed to ensure professionalism and sustainability in domestic football, requires clubs to meet specific criteria in areas such as stadium facilities, youth development, and administrative structures.

Despite its importance, enforcement has been a challenge, with many clubs failing to meet the minimum requirements yet still being allowed to participate in the league.

Dr. Baah-Nuakoh’s comments are likely to spark fresh debate within the football fraternity over the GFA’s commitment to reforms and its ability to raise the standards of the Ghana Premier League.

With a new season approaching, attention will now turn to whether the GFA will act decisively on licensing or continue to overlook its own regulations.
