NDC Accused of Plotting Violence… Ahead of Crucial Akwatia By-Election

As the Akwatia by-election approaches, there are growing concerns about rising tensions between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Unverified reports circulating on some platforms allege that elements aligned with the NDC may be planning acts of intimidation against NPP members in the constituency. These claims—if true—are deeply troubling and should be taken seriously by the security services.

Observers have also expressed worry that such political maneuvers may be part of broader efforts to influence the balance of power in Parliament. Some political commentators have speculated that the opposition’s aim is to secure a parliamentary majority to push for constitutional reforms. However, it’s important to note that Ghana’s Constitution strictly limits presidential terms to two, and any change would require a national referendum—not just a parliamentary vote.

The public is urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could incite panic or violence. All stakeholders—political parties, civil society, media, and security agencies—must work together to ensure that the by-election is peaceful, fair, and free from intimidation.
