The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched a comprehensive investigation into alleged corruption and smuggling within Ghana’s petroleum sector, following ASEPA’s exposé implicating nine oil marketing companies (OMCs) in tax fraud schemes. Central to the probe is Maranatha Oil Service, accused of irregular condensate transport from Atuabo to Tema using vehicles tied to R.B.A. Goodness Enterprise.
In a letter dated May 30, 2025, the OSP demanded detailed tracking data for marine gas oil (MGO) and condensate movements from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for 2023 and 2024. It also called for the immediate suspension of the implicated OMCs.
ASEPA’s report claims over 222 million litres of tax-exempt MGO were diverted between 2023 and 2024, causing over GHC500 million in tax losses. Despite these revelations and the OSP’s directives, the NPA has yet to respond publicly or take visible action, raising concerns of possible institutional complicity.
This investigation could mark a major turning point in Ghana’s fight against petroleum sector corruption.
