…Mounts Bold Bid to Rebuild NPP
A prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of General Secretary ahead of the party’s upcoming internal elections.
Widely regarded by some grassroots supporters as a vibrant and energetic patriot, Kokofu is positioning himself as a strategic force capable of steering the party from opposition back into government in 2028.
A known loyalist of the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, Kokofu says his primary political mission is to help secure a presidential victory for Dr. Bawumia in the next general elections. According to him, rebuilding the party’s organisational strength is essential if the NPP hopes to reclaim power.
Kokofu brings considerable experience to the race. He previously served as Member of Parliament for Bantama, one of the NPP’s most reliable electoral strongholds. He also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency under the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Declaring himself ready for the challenge, Kokofu argues that the role of General Secretary must go beyond administrative coordination. In his view, the position requires a proactive strategist capable of setting the party’s agenda through tactical and technical political manoeuvres.
“A General Secretary must be dynamic and forward-thinking, not someone who waits to be called into action,” he has reportedly told supporters, stressing the need for bold internal reforms and stronger grassroots mobilisation.
He insists that his political experience and technical knowledge uniquely position him to win the internal contest and help transform the NPP into a formidable opposition force capable of decisively confronting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028.
Kokofu has therefore called on party faithful across the country to rally behind his bid, framing his candidacy as part of a broader mission to rebuild the NPP, restore its electoral dominance, and return it to power in the next political cycle.
