…Urges Delegates to Vote on Competence, Not Region
Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says he is not taking anything for granted as he campaigns for the support of delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31.
Despite being widely seen as a leading contender in the race, Dr Bawumia said respect for party delegates requires sustained engagement and hard work across the country.
Speaking in an interview with Spear FM in Damongo during a campaign tour of the Savannah Region, Dr Bawumia said continuous effort remains essential in politics.
“I never take anything for granted. In politics, you have to keep working hard until everything is done,” he said.
Dr Bawumia disclosed that his campaign had already reached most parts of the country, noting that the Savannah Region was the 13th region he had visited as part of his nationwide outreach.
“I am touring virtually all the 276 constituencies, and the Savannah Region is the 13th region that I have toured,” he said.
He expressed gratitude for the strength to sustain what he described as an intense nationwide campaign, adding that his message had been well received by party members.
Dr Bawumia said he would soon complete visits to the remaining regions, noting that the Northern, Greater Accra and Ashanti regions were yet to be covered.
During the interview, the former Vice President appealed to NPP delegates to vote based on competence, track record and vision rather than regional considerations.
“I’m asking for the support of our NPP delegates. They should vote for me based on my track record, competence, integrity, vision and experience, not because of where I come from,” he said.
Dr Bawumia said his record as Vice President under the Akufo-Addo administration demonstrated his readiness to lead the country, adding that his performance had been widely acknowledged.
He also expressed confidence that the NPP could return to power under his leadership in the 2028 general election.
“I believe that this party, under my leadership, will come back to power after the 2028 election. We will work hard for the people of Ghana,” he said.
