…Poised for January Victory
A new national poll from Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia continues to hold a commanding lead among the core base of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), solidifying his status as the clear frontrunner for the party’s upcoming flagbearership election.
The September 2025 survey, which focused on the preferences of NPP voters, indicates that Dr. Bawumia’s support within the party remains robust and largely unshaken. The data shows that a decisive 72% of NPP voters who supported him in the 2024 general election still prefer him to lead the party into the next electoral cycle. His closest rival, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, trails with the preference of 20% of this key demographic.
Dr. Bawumia’s dominance is even more pronounced in the Ashanti Region, the NPP’s traditional stronghold. There, 73% of party voters who cast their ballot for him last year are standing by him, compared to 20% for Mr. Agyapong. This regional strength underscores Dr. Bawumia’s deep-rooted connection with the party’s most critical voter base.
The numbers speak to a foundation of solid and unwavering support for the Vice President. To have such an overwhelming majority of your previous voters still with you is a powerful indicator of loyalty and perceived electability within the party ranks.
The poll also delved into the more challenging segment of disgruntled NPP voters who defected to the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 election. Nationally, this group is more divided, with 39% preferring Dr. Bawumia and 36% leaning towards Mr. Agyapong.
However, a striking finding from the Ashanti Region reveals a significant advantage for Dr. Bawumia even among these estranged voters. A resounding 63% of those in Ashanti who voted for JDM now prefer Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP, with only 21% supporting Mr. Agyapong. This suggests a stronger capacity for Dr. Bawumia to reunify the party’s base in its most vital region.
As the race intensifies, the analytical focus is now shifting to the party delegates who will ultimately choose the flagbearer. The Global InfoAnalytics team announced this morning that it has commenced its October 2025 delegates polls, which will provide a more precise assessment of the candidates’ standing among the electoral college.
For now, the September data delivers a clear message: as the NPP looks to rebuild and unite, Dr. Bawumia maintains a formidable and commanding lead among the party’s faithful.
