EOCO Denies Reports of Springfield CEO’s Arrest in Dubai

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has dismissed as false a report published by online platform Novareport claiming that Kevin Okyere, Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Energy, had been arrested or detained in Dubai over a petition purportedly linked to the anti-graft agency.

In a statement EOCO described the publication as “false, misleading and malicious,” clarifying that the Office has neither ordered the arrest of Mr. Okyere nor neglected to act on any petition involving Springfield Energy.

According to EOCO, two ongoing investigations currently involve Springfield Energy — one stemming from a petition lodged against the company, and another connected to what the Office termed an “explosive” dispute between the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) and Springfield Energy.

The Office underscored that its procedures are guided by evidence-based investigations rather than premature arrests.

“It is the policy directive of the leadership of EOCO that investigations must precede arrests and not the reverse,” the statement emphasised.

EOCO further noted that the BOST-related matter holds “strategic importance” due to its potential implications for the state enterprise’s finances and the wider Ghanaian economy.

While maintaining its standard policy of non-disclosure regarding ongoing cases, EOCO expressed disappointment that Novareport failed to verify its claims before publication.

“EOCO is actively working on not one, but two investigations involving Springfield Energy,” the Office reiterated, assuring the public of its firm commitment to professionalism, due process, and the fight against economic and organised crime.

The agency has therefore urged the public to disregard the false report and remain confident in EOCO’s mandate to uphold accountability and transparency in Ghana’s economic governance.
